Dear Grandma

When we (my sis and I) were younger, grandma (Ama) used to make her signature pandan kaya for us. We will stand on stools by the stove and just look at her stirring the mixture in the pot. It takes many hours to actually make a yummy pandan kaya and when it's done, we each get a small bowl of it to savour. I find it amusing that grandma speaks to us in Hokkien ever since we were born but we never actually learnt that dialect. We grew up with the sound of grandma's nagging that it became kind of a chant. At times, we find it funny she'll continue nagging or talking even when nobody is responding. But that's grandma.. and we all love her very much.

It has been 5 days since grandma is hospitalised for head trauma. Her condition is deteriorating day by day.. I'm still strongly hoping that she'll recover soon. Mommy called in this morning to inform me that grandma can't talk nor move much since yesterday. So if God do exist, I'm begging you to let this old lady be with us a little longer. Please spare her the pain and suffering. She has gone through enough hardship raising her children as a widower so she deserve to live a happier life a little longer. I know grandma loves to nag and a lil' pessimistic at times but it's okay.. I don't mind her nagging longer and I don't mind her asking me to do things. I just want to see her smiles and hear her voice. She only smiled at me today when I was by her side and drifted to sleep again. So please...... let grandma get better.

Waka waka

On FIFA World Cup 2010 final night, Ashton asked me to join his friends at the street party held in Bangsar. They practically closed the busiest area in Bangsar which is the Telawi Street.

This is the outside view. I could even hear the cheers and loud music booming from afar.
And THIS is the VERY LONG QUEUE to enter. Nic told us that he got the VIP invitation cards. VIP invites still need to queue? Kononnye it's VIP but everyone else has it. During the queue, we were contemplating whether to leave or to stay.

And look who I bumped into.. Eva! And before that I bumped into Adele and Ian as well. And not only them.. I also bumped into darling cousins Su Wei, Ivan and Jess (Ivan's gf).

If you manage to get the correct number of balls available in the net.. This red baby is yours!

Look at the crowd~ There were many booths offering games with prizes to be won.

And face painting too!!!!! Love this..

He too want to be painted.

Tadah! A happy boy with stripes..

And me too! I had Netherland's flag on my other cheek because it looks better than Spain's. Lol.. But don't misunderstand, I'm a Spain supporter.

We were trying to kill time before the game so we played a couple of games. Err.. not we, only him. As you can see, the player need to "kepit" the ball in between their legs and pass through 3 cones in a given time. The prizes offered were cameras, mobile phones, MP3s, bags, footballs and etc etc. Ash managed to win a shoe bag. Aw, better than none.

See the proud winner.

Then, he went to another booth and played the guessing game. He had to guess the insect in the box and he guessed correctly! Won a laptop....... cooler.

We were given a goodie bag with a few items in it. A fan, a mini ball, snacks, a lighter, 2 balloon sticks and a travel size shampoo.

Of all, Ash likes this the most. The lighter.. I prefer the fan. Come in handy in a hot, stuffy place like a street party. We didn't stay till the end of the party. Left to watch the game somewhere else instead. Couldn't take the heat and stuffiness no more. But overall, we were happy to be there to win some prizes and to have our face painted. Waka waka eh eh~

Visiting Mom & Dad

2 months of long semester break.. So must pay mom & dad a visit in Kota Kinabalu. Not much pics taken this trip. Most of my time was spent eating and chattering away with my beloved parents. We even spent time watching the games (World Cup) till 4 a.m!! During my stay there, it rained every single day. Luckily, this trip I did not plan to hit the beaches. No kawan to accompany me so can't go.

Daddy kesayanganku!!

Mommy ku yang terbaik!

Mom & dad love bringing me out for good food whenever I'm there so I usually gain a pound or two after the trip. They brought me to this Filipino restaurant in Lintas. It's called Masarap. This is my first time trying out Filipino dishes and I was a little skeptical about it. Initially, I thought it wouldn't be very tasty but I thought wrong......

They serve A LOT of pork dishes. Pork sate, pork sausage, vege with pork, luncheon meat, etc etc. If Ean Doodoo (my sis) was there, she'd most probably be salivating just by looking at the menu. And they tasted really yummy!

After a couple of days in KK, it's time to fly home. I was really excited to be on that particular flight back to KL because.......... Daddy is flying me home!!! After all these years, this is my 2nd time on board his flight. Well, flight was of course smooth and comfortable. Needless to say the landing was perfect. Much better than most of the landings I've encountered. After landed, I get to sneak into the cockpit (where the pilots are) to bid farewell.
This is your Captain speaking. LOL!!

Shopping with cousin from Singapore

Cousin Aloysius from Singapore came down for a visit. So for the past 3 days we spent most of our time in malls and shopping. He loves to shop in KL because according to him stuff are cheaper here. Well, of course it is after conversion from ringgit to Singapore dollar... So we walk and shop all day! Ohoh... overspent (referring to me).

I kinda like Crabtree & Evelyn products and it's also perfect for gifts. See how pretty the sales assistant wrapped up the items I bought. And yes, they are presents for my friends, not for me. I bought myself a bottle of perfume from them because they have EDP. I was planning to get the L'occitane Peony perfume but because it's EDT, I decided to get the Crabtree & Evelyn's instead. I'm regretting it now because although it's EDP which is suppose to last me 6-8 hours, it actually lasted for 3-4 hours ONLY!! And i paid Rm215 for it. Will not repurchase it again.

And as I was storing the paper bags from the stuff I bought.. I realised the compartment to store paper bags if FULL! So I had to throw some of it out. Look at the amount of paper bags~ But I love beautiful striking paper bags. It's like a hobby collecting them.

I'm always impressed by how beautiful the decorations of an event at Mid Valley. It changes all the time and each time it's equally unique and beautiful. The pic on top is an event promoting Kose skincare products.

This is a booth set up by a Korean shop to promote their BB creams. Can't remember the name.

Aah~ Comel nye... This lovely flower girl was standing at the L'occitane roadshow, so Sheryl and I took the opportunity to take a snap with her. Ain't she cute?

And this guy was staring at us during the whole process of photo taking and we felt bad not asking him as well. So, tambah satu lagi.

This is Aloysius. And no, those bags doesn't belong to him entirely. One of it is his. One is Sheryl's and... one for me!!! We insanely bought 3 same luggage bags at the luggage fair. And Ashton bought one different from ours. Will definitely be using it for my trip to Taipei next month! Just pray that all my shopping goodies will fit in this medium size bag.

Jz dropping by

My blog was on a short hiatus (Well, not that short actually). That's mainly because I was busy preparing for my semester's final exam which ended end of last month. There's much to talk about but I just wasn't in a mood for blogging. Reason for dropping some crap here is to keep this blog alive. Will update some of the happenings in my life soon. Till then, take care and have fun!

Malacca with the Odd-ies

My first road trip with my dear college mates which I named the group "The Odd-ies" (Amanda, Natalie, Vivien, Francisca, Eva, Eric, Kim Chun). Abigail couldn't join us due to some certain reason which left her heartbroken. Our devoted chauffeurs for the trip are Amanda and Eric. With their cautious driving skill, we managed to arrived Malacca town safely after 2 hours. We got lost a few times thanks to the GPS which directed us to a different location. Oddly, the GPS couldn't seem to function properly.. BUT, we still managed our way around.

This is our room in a guesthouse. The name of this guesthouse is Number Twenty. Located just right opposite the Famosa Chicken rice shop at Jonker street. The rooms are clean and cost only Rm95 per room. However, we have to share toilets with other guests as well. Thankfully, there weren't anyone else except for us there, I think.. So we kinda dominated the whole area. According to KC, he felt that the place was spooky~ But Eva and I felt quite peaceful there. So, if you are looking for a traditional budget guesthouse, you may check this out.

So after checking in.. We visited Famosa Chicken rice shop to satisfy our growling stomachs. If you ask me.. The chicken rice balls are just so-so. They do look cute but they taste the same as those normal ones. Our second makan place was assam laksa and cendol at.. "Sam Suk Kung" (If i'm not wrong) along Jonker street as well. They sell really spicy laksa there, but good ones. Their cendol is quite famous in Malacca. The weather was so damn hot that we were sweating profusely!

We then found this cute, comfy cafe situated along an alley. It's adjacent to Famosa Chicken rice shop. I can't recall the name but it was recommended by "Lonely Planet". Seriously, it is a real good place to sit down and enjoy a cooling drink while chilling out with your friends.

See what I mean? They have plants, paintings and decos that really captured our attention. The beverages were yummy and affordable too! Bonus. So the whole bunch of us sat there and gossiped till the Jonker's night market opens. We took a stroll along the night market and decided to head for the famous fried oyster with egg which they call it "O-Chien".

This is the famous "O-chien" chef!! I forgot to ask for his name. His stall only opens at night and it's located along Jalan Bunga Raya. There's this alley where it is lighted up at night. Nothing much there except for a coffee shop next to this stall which sells "wonton noodles". I couldn't recall the direction to the famous "wonton noodle" at Jalan Temenggong so I decided to ask the seller there for direction (Not aware that he too sells wonton noodle!). So the kind-hearted seller directed me to the place. Aww...

This is the pic of our "unfinished" bowls of noodles. It's all my fault... I told them that the small portion is REALLY small so all of them ordered BIG!!! End up, the noodles doesn't seem to decrease even though we tried so hard to consume as much as we could. The lady boss asked us to pack it up and eat later (We were ashamed of ourselves). So we really did packed the left over up in a plastic bag and....... WE DISPOSED IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!! I know.. we are such bad children. *faint* Forgive us God for we have sinned. But we really couldn't eat it no more.. Some of them even said "I'll not have wonton noodles for months to come!". Lol... My bad. Oops~

A road trip wouldn't be complete without a drinking session right? So, we went back to Jonkers and decided to have a drink at Geographer which Natalie told me "You know this place appeared in the movie Momocha?". It was an old movie filmed by Richie Ren and Sammi Cheng. Anyway, due to the fact that i couldn't take alcohol (because I'm allergic to it. Sadly..) I ordered an iced green tea. And the young ones had beer! Cis..
At about 1am, we went back to our guesthouse. All of us were so tired due to the long day of travelling around YET.. they wanna have pillow talk!! WTH~ So yeah, we had pillow talk till 4am. They all looked like ghosts, errr.. including me. But I would say it did bonded us closer together.
And the consequences for sleeping at 4am?? All of them woke up LATE! Except for Eva and I of course. WE are suppose to check out 11am. They woke up at 10.45. All were rushing like chicken without a head. And because they were late, we had to extend a room for them to put on their make-up, blow hair, and had a light breakfast of coffee and toast. Oh, the guesthouse serves continental breakfast by the way. We paid Rm15 for an hour of extension on the room. So not fair. Lesson learnt.. DO NOT HAVE PILLOW TALK!

After checking out, we had Nyonya cuisine at Nancy's Place. Then, The popiah of course.. It is a MUST HAVE. The popiah stall is located at Jalan Bunga Raya, closes on Wednesday (I think) and opens from 2pm-till it's sold out, usually around 5pm. Next, we had pork sate at Ming's Hut. They also serves fresh juices!!

Before heading home, I brought them for dessert at Nadeje cake house. My sister loves this. I love them too. It is also another MUST HAVE. Try the original and rum & raisin flavour mille crepe. You'll not regret it.
So with a full tummy, we drove home and poor Eric encountered a road bully. Worse, he had Natalie giving him directions to a Korean restaurant recommended by Nat. For those who doesn't know the story, I choose not to tell it here for the sake of keeping my dear friend's image. To make the story short, we all almost had heart attacks. But thankfully, we managed to arrive there safe and sound.

As you can see.. Eric was so annoyed that kept staring at Natalie.. Lol. And the "sesat" Nat didn't even realised it. And so, Amanda and I came to a conclusion that Eric has this love-hate relationship with Natalie. Eventually, the hatred never last more than 10 minutes.

See.. A big happy family!

Friday, March 5, 2010

Okay, finally i've decided to post some of my Chinese New Year captured moments here.. From my previous post, as you all have known that I was sick for the past... 10-12 days I guess. Blame the excessively hot weather, CNY junks (cookies, chips, cold drinks) and lack of rest. Now that I'm feeling much better, it's time to jot down some of the precious moments of 2010 CNY.

As custom, during CNY we will go "pai nin"- House visiting. Since I have a large group of relatives, it took me 5 days to round up all their houses (1 day for 1 family). Eat, eat, eat.. I didn't even get to eat mandarin oranges because I was coughing so badly. How can??!! But I get heaps of ang pow, so it's ok. Shy-nye~ Aunties always ask "Better get married soon so that next year I need not give you ang pow". Aiyah aunties.. Give me chance to collect ang pow another few years .. No money la. Kesian me ok?

That porcelain china doll next to me is a random lil" girl I spotted at one of my relative's house. She was too cute to resist so I tempted her to take a pic with me. Comel kan?

Ivise, Popo (my grandma), me
Actually, me Popo hates taking pictures but always kena force by us to pose for the camera. Lol. See her uneasiness? She's the coolest grandma! She's simply so.. lovable~

Ah.. This is my other grandma (a.k.a Mama). Paternal side. My Mama has this funny side of her. She tends to repeat her conversation multiple times.. But when you tell her "Ma, you told me the story before", she'll simply continue with her story. Lol.. Eventually, you'll have to listen to the same story from start to end, again. Well, i guess that's what old people usually do, don't they? We still love her as much.. Because she's cute.

This is my cousin clan.. Jovy is missing. Recently, she tends to miss out alot of our gathering. Sad nye.. And why am I the only one wearing cheongsam on CNY? Shall make it a rule that everyone should wear it on CNY.

Ah, Su Wei wore it once during her birthday which falls on the 7th day of CNY.

This is like 80% of my relatives (paternal side). This is one very memorable gathering.. We celebrated our 2nd day of CNY in Neway!! I love all of them.. Tapi hor, they don't follow instructions very well. The pic above was taken before they pose for a shot. They are suppose to pose as "puffer fish".

THIS is the outcome of the pose. *sigh* All wanna act cool and cute only. Ended up only Su Wei and me posed for it. Stupid us... should have known that they never follow instructions.
